I’m just back from a wonderful day at the tenth annual Wychwood Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse. The Kids Literature Festival that forms part of a HUGE family music event is run (brilliantly) by Barbara Pendrigh and her team at Waterstone’s Cheltenham. There’s a lovely performance tent attached to an equally exciting bookshop tent. Books and bunting galore – and loads of authors and illustrators who kept the kids entertained all weekend!
I had a brilliant time turning the kids into gorillas (Ding Dong Gorilla), teaching them ‘How To Wash a Woolly Mammoth’ and calming them down a bit with ‘Goodnight Pirate’ – although quite a bit of swashbuckling was involved, come to think of it.
The one woman wonder that is Barbara had even persuaded Bloomsbury to part with some early copies of ‘There’s a Lion In My Cornflakes’, so we read that as well, and sold the very first copies to some very happy looking kids.
Thanks so much to Barbara, the Waterstone’s team and volunteers – and to everyone who came along and made the event so much fun. I hope I’m invited back again next year!
